Licensing and open-source notices

AlpineERP is built on open-source software. This page names those components, the licences they are provided under, and how to obtain their source code.

1. In short

AlpineERP is a commercial product built on top of ERPNext and the Frappe Framework, together with other open-source components listed below. We did not write the business application layer from scratch, and we do not claim to have.

AlpineERP is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Frappe Technologies Pvt. Ltd. “ERPNext” and “Frappe” are trademarks of their respective owners, used here descriptively to identify the software AlpineERP is built on.

The intelligence layer, the build engine, the AlpineERP interface and the AlpineERP brand are our own work. The platform underneath is open source, and remains so.

2. Components and licences

The following components are redistributed or made available as part of an AlpineERP deployment. Each remains subject to its own licence, which governs your rights in that component.

ERPNext

The business application layer: accounting, stock, buying, selling, manufacturing, projects and assets.

3. Your rights under the GPL

ERPNext is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3. Nothing in AlpineERP’s commercial terms removes, limits, or overrides any right the GPL grants you in the GPL-licensed components. Where our terms and the GPL differ in respect of those components, the GPL governs.

Those rights include, in respect of the GPL-licensed components:

The freedom to run the program for any purpose.
Access to the corresponding source code, including any modifications we have made and distributed to you.
The freedom to modify the software and to distribute your modified versions, under the same licence.

Written offer of source code. If you have received a copy of AlpineERP that includes GPL-licensed components, you may obtain the complete corresponding source code for those components, including our modifications, by writing to legal@alpineerp.com. We will provide it on a physical medium or by download, for no more than our reasonable cost of distribution. This offer is valid for at least three years from the date you received that copy.

4. What is ours, and what is not

AlpineERP includes proprietary components that we own: among them our configuration and deployment tooling, the AlpineERP web interface, and the AlpineERP name, logo and visual identity. These are licensed to customers under our commercial agreement, not under an open-source licence.

Where our proprietary components and GPL-licensed components are combined and distributed together, we treat the resulting combination in accordance with the obligations of the GPL. Our trademarks are not licensed under the GPL, and the licences above grant no right to use the AlpineERP name or marks.

5. Contributing back

Fixes we make to the open-source components are offered upstream to the projects that maintain them. Building on other people’s work carries an obligation to improve it, and we would rather meet that obligation than defend a fork.
